Many students choose to take English Language courses (ELICOS – English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) offered in the Australian universities and institutions.
Intake & Application Deadlines
- Course start dates usually vary by course. The course period typically starts in late February and goes on until mid-November.
- Course enrolments start at the beginning of the year (usually in January or February), but application dates are mostly towards the end of the previous year. Some universities in Australia also have a mid-year intake (usually in July) for certain courses.
Student Visa Terms and Provisions
- Student visa to Australia is offered after enrolling for a full-time course of study registered with the Commonwealth Registry of International Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)
- A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) which is mandatorily required in order to apply for student visa.
- A student visa holder in Australia can normally work for a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight during the course and unlimited hours during the semester breaks and the end of the course.
Post-Study Options
- Students interested in pursuing post graduate opportunities in Australia need to extend their student visa (subclass 573)
- International students need temporary work visas (Post-Study Work Stream Visa) to work full-time and stay in Australia for two years following the completion of their undergraduate course.
