Columbia University was established in 1754 as King’s College by royal charter to King George II of England. It is the oldest higher learning institution in the state of New York and the sixth oldest in the United States. The University is one of the most important research centers in the world and at the same time, a distinctive and distinguished learning atmosphere for undergraduates and graduate students in many academic and technical fields.

Columbia’s Morning Side Heights campus is located on Broadway and 116th Street in Manhattan. The Medical Center is located at 168th Street West and Broadway, just southeast of George Washington Bridge in northern Manhattan.
